I plan on calling the mechanic who did the timing belt job tomorrow and seeing what he has to say, but I thought I'd get a second opinion from anyone who might have more know-how than me. In 2 weeks I have to drive it about 600 miles in one day in total to the next state over, and I dont want to have any problems, so any words of caution would be greatly appreciated. What could be causing the rough idle? Could that have something to do with what was done during the timing belt job? Is there any reason I should be wary of draining and replacing the fluid? What about replacing the little transmission filter? Should I fill the fluid through the dipstick pipe or the fill plug (if there is one for an 05 pilot)? Id really like to drain the fluid and replace it with new, and replace the filter. Then I also watched a video of a guy replacing the transmission filter for an 05 pilot. In another video of an 04 pilot, the guy filled it via a fill plug inside of the engine bay. In one video, the guy drained the fluid via the plug on the underside of the vehicle, and filled it with the new fluid via the dipstick pipe that is used to check the fluid level. I found a couple videos on how to do this. I was thinking about draining and replacing the transmission fluid with the recommended Honda fluid. What do you think the most obvious culprit for the odd shifting is? I have put almost 100 miles on it since the timing belt job was done, and the idle is still rough and the shifting is still funny. I said screw that, and replaced the spark plugs and the one coil pack myself for $100 and it didnt fix the problem at all as far as I could tell, at which point I brought it to the Honda mechanic. I should also mention that before I brought it to him and realized that it was the timing belt that was the issue, I brought it to a Pep Boys (a pretty big chain in the area) to have them look at it, as I was hearing a constant tapping noise coming from the engine (obviously turned out to be the timing belt, as the noise went away after it was replaced), the mechanics at pep boys said I had a misfire on cyl #3 and that they were going to charge me 450 to replace spark plugs and the coil pack on cyl #3 to see if that fixes the misfire and thus fixes the noise I was hearing and the weird shifting. He did say something about it running lean, but I didn't get a specific on exactly what it is he meant by that. I haven't looked into the proper way to read the transmission dipstick to see if the levels are okay or not, but I did noticed the fluid to be sort of dark, but not black. It also idles pretty heavily, and when I first went to start it after paying for the job, it took slightly longer to start up after turning the key. Its usually more noticeable going from 1st to 2nd gear but it seems to do it for all gears. However, I noticed after I picked the car up, it seems to be shifting at a little higher rpms than normal, which is causing a slightly hard shift. Seems like a pretty knowledgeable guy and did the job extremely fast. I just got the timing belt replaced and adjusted, new water pump, and motor mount installed for $850 by a Honda mechanic in my area that used to work at the Honda dealership and went rogue. I tried a quick search to see if I could find specific information, but I actually have a few questions.
